Product: Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 EX DG OS HSM (Canon Fit) Lens
Very nice IQ and when coupled with a 1.4X teleconverter offers a nice upgrade over Canons 100-400 zoom, at a price. Of course, the Canon can never get to f/2.8, or even f/4, and the Sigma has superior OS (IS) too, so apart from bulk and weight its a major step up in every respect.
Sadly there is a big downside in my experience and that is reliability. Mine was faulty on delivery and had to be returned for AF motor repair after enduring inconsistent performance for several months before discovering the cause.
Four months on from that repair it is in once more, this time for another AF fault which is something not related to the AF motor, but something else. Ive also noticed that the OS, while still working, seems to be less impressive now then when first purchased. Ive asked for that to be investigated too. The first repair took around 4 weeks. The estimate for the new repair is 2-3 weeks. Fortunately Im still in the first year of the three year warranty, but this lens lives up to its reputation for poor reliability.
If you want this lens then Id strongly advise having solid warranty cover to go with it, so watch out when buying grey imports or second hand copies.
