Sigma did a great job with this lens! Latest model with optical Stabiliser is certainly a step up from the earlier lens. Its quite a big lens and takes huge 95mm filters but is supplied with a nice lens hood plus if you are using on an APS-C body an adapter ring to allow 86mm filters and a matched lens hood. Zoom action is nice and smooth but the lens does increase in length quite a bit when zoomed. Focussing is nice and fast with the built in HSM motor and the OS system is really excellent - you can really see a big difference through the viewfinder and in your results. Optical quality is excellent right through the range - at 500mm the lens benefits from stopping down to F8-F11 but even wide open results are more likely to be limited by atmospherics than lens performance. Have used the lens for Airshows and general photography and would thoroughly recommend it.
