The Canon 24-105mm lens is a versatile high quality lens. The 24mm to 105mm focal length range covers all the classic lengths for portraits, and is also useful for landscapes. The fixed maximum aperture of f4 is good, and the excellent image stabilizer allows handheld shots at relatively slow shutter speeds (provided the subject is stationary). I have had a Canon 24-105mm lens for about 7 years, and it has become my all purpose every day lens - it rarely leaves my camera. Image quality is good enough for professional work - images are sharp with good contrast. Compared to all the other lenses I own, the 24-105mm is probably the favourite, just beating my 24-70mm due to its greater range and image stabilizer.

This lens is fabulously versatile and rarely leaves my 5D MKII. Wide enough for almost everything, and extremly sharp at all focal lengths and apertures. Not too heavy and well balanced, solid build and fluid motion whilst zooming, resonably quick and very sharp focus. I have owned two examples of this and would rate it higher if it were not for a known issue with the iris decoder failing on a huge number of these. Both examples have had to have this part replaced at a cost of around £200 each. I own four L series lenses and would expect a better standard from Canon on its flagship premium branded products. Whilst having the second part fitted, the service centre recons Canon has now upgraded the offending part and this should also be the case in all new models.

Possibly the sharpest lens I own, doubles as a great landscape lens when I only want to carry a simple setup. For travelling it is an invaluable tool, the range unbeatable on my 5D.

Always sharp and clean unless you own technique lets you down
The IS is a 3-stop version and is very useful indeed.
Some might want wider than the 24mm but this is such a good lens you find yourself talking a step backwards and not caring.
Expense but worth the money.
Very highly recommended.
