I’ve been a bit of an outsider all my life and - been of the age that I can remember David Bailey and his work with the Olyi OM1. when I came to DSLR, after several years of serious digital compacts, I immediately considered Olympus.
The company, I was pleased to note were still on the outside and a little quirky with a system that the big two had not considered in their push to build a different camera for every situation and get it round the neck of every photograph wanabe in the civilised world.
My Olympus E500 proved a worthy piece of kit which is still going strong after close on 20K clicks but well the E3 is a super looking thing thought I and with live view, I wouldn’t be having to get down on my middle-aged spread to take the low level snaps I like and the image stabilisation built into the camera body so all my lens benefit it looked to me that there was enough new items to justify moving up especially with the fantastic offer of a free FL50 flash that has a street price of £350 it was a no brainer not to jump up to the top of the range right now before the banks foreclose on everything and we have to buy things with gold coins or cups of rice.
The only thing then was to find the right deal and that for me wasn’t to difficult, thanks to this excellent site. I’d noticed a while ago on this site a new, and I feel, up and coming company - Martin’s Camera Shop. I’d noticed Martin’s Camera Shop when I was looking to buy the Sigma 10-20 he had an excellent price but didn’t seem to list the Oliy 4/3 mount. What I liked about Martin’s Camera Shop was not only the fantastic prices but he was local to my area (12cliks North East of Leeds West Yorkshire) always good to buy local, not just local economy but any problems and it’s not to far to go to bang on the counter.
I went over to see Martin’s rather then phone (another advantage of being local) make sure the place exists before parting with the readies. Martin explained that he was still powering the company up so had had to limit the lines they carried in the early days but that he would try to get hold of the Sigma in the 4/3 mount, just a day two later Martin called me to say he had my lens, fantastic price fantastic service. No need to ask then who I called when I decided to move up to the E3. Again Martin didn’t have the E3 but said he was sure he’d be able to help, sure enough same thing, a few days later fantastic deal fantastic service. As for the E3 well this could be the start of a beautiful relationship.

Being from a manufacture other than Canon/Nikon this camera will always be more niche, however, it is a fantastic piece of equipment with outstanding features and full weather proofing. For the money, you can’t get better! Don’t miss out because it’s from Olympus, the colours the Olympus produces are probably the best out there simply superb. Plus to top all this it is a camera and lens system designed purely for Digital.
